Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty.’ – that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know
John Keats
Veracity is the quality of being true, honest, or accurate. Photography was developed with the idea of capturing and preserving some scene in the real world. The deviations from reality were technical – mainly lens distortions and the limitations of chemistry. Unfortunately now we are bombarded with digital images that are at best doctored and at worst totally generated by AI computer systems. Sun and Silver.photo is dedicated to the thought that there is a place in the world for real images of real people.
When we say “real images for real people” what do we mean? Firstly, the image is a physical object. You can hold it in your hand and hang it on your wall. Second, the image is primarily created with human hands – it is not made by a machine or a computer. Third, the image has veracity in that it is an honest depiction of both the person in the portrait and the skills and ability of the photographer who makes the image.
The biggest component of “real images for real people” is that the image is a result of the collaboration, the relationship, between the people who created it. Together we plan and create the image. Wet plate collodion is by nature a slower process and it takes me about 20 minutes to create an image (along with hours of preparation and post image processing time). So by moving slower we also have time to talk and plan and get to know each other.
So are you a “real person” and are you interested in “real images”? If so Contact Me and we can start our conversation.
PS – From the earliest days of photography people have played around to manipulate “reality”. Using a bag of tricks, like multiple exposures, unreal or trick images can be created. Examples include spirit photography and unmanning (like the Headless Horseman of legend). Of course, these “practical” effects still use real people and real props so still quality as real images!
