Wonderful session Riverside tintypes with Nataly. The 1st of February and almost 50 degrees temperature is an excellent opportunity for making some tintypes. We met at Riverside Park in Neenah and had fun around the fountain and by the river. The fountain is “Playing in The Rain” by Dallas J. Anderson. And is fun and whimsical. Someone dresses the children in knit hats for the Winter!
Nataly came in a stunning red dress and had a lot of fun with the children in the fountain – almost as if Summer is just around the corner. Our first pose in the fountain was pure luck! In a previous post I commented on how the day had quick changing light conditions. The shot turned out great despite my guessing!
We decided to do a second plate (both 5x7in) of the same pose to optimize the exposure. This plate is a bit richer with a bit more contrast. Not necessarily better just different!
Our next plate, an 8×10, was done dancing around the fountain. This was the most difficult because of the suddenly harsh sunlight. We found an angle that worked but had a lot of light spill into the lens. I actually like the dreamy character of this plate.
Our last Riverside tintype was riverside indeed. The light was starting to fail – out of nowhere dark clouds covered the sun. But with a sense of urgency we managed to get the last picture of the day! Poor Nataly had to pose against the tree while I adjusted the camera to get her in focus and line up the river in the background. Not an easy thing to do but we survived and the plate came out so nice!
I will be doing location shooting all through 2024. Contact me to set up your special portrait!
