In preparation for Open Access Day here are a few semi-interesting tidbits:
We are doing tintypes for several reasons including the joy of working with so many talented and creative models! We will also use the images for our social and portfolio to help attract customers. Select images could be published or offered for sale.
My associate Brittany will be helping with the sessions and will try and capture some digital images BTS etc.
We will be doing 6×8 inch photos on aluminum all day. If I have time I will try and make some glass plates too!
It take 10 minutes or so to make each photo – the actual posing time is only a few seconds, and the rest is making the plate and developing
As a relatively slow/calm part of your day it is a good opportunity to chill a bit or maybe have a snack!
All models will receive the original images we make – we’ll mail them out in a week or so (they have to be washed, dried and varnished) So we’ll need a mailing address to ship – unless you are going to be in the Neenah area to pick your images up
We’ll also do a digital scan of each plate for your social or portfolio – we will need a email contact to send the links
We have a standard model release for you to sign so we can use the images for our business, you can see a copy at this link: Model Release
All images are created with pure silver so black & white. Wet plate sees some colors differently – blue is white and red is black so be aware especially if you use shades of blue or red in your makeup. Wardrobe that looks good in black and white is something with detail and contrast. For example pure black is OK but black with ruffles or lace or silver accessories is better.
We do photos close to our little red trailer which will be parked not far from the barn.
The developing step is really cool and people often bring their cell phone or camera to get pictures or video!
